Android Surpasses Apple in Global Tablet Sales

Android now has a larger tablet market share than iOS. Overall tablet sales have grown as new buyers are intrigued by smaller screened, lower-end tablets.

According to a new report from Gartner, Android now has a larger tablet market share than iOS.

As tablets become more affordable and first time buyers are intrigued by smaller screened, lower-end tablets, sales have increased.

  • Worldwide tablet sales increased 68% from 2012 to 2013
  • Android sales grew 127% from 2012 to 2013
  • iOS sales grew in Q4 2013, but their market shared dropped 36% from 2012 to 2013

Android and iOS are still the top two tablet operating systems, accounting for over 97% of the market. Microsoft doubled its market share, but still only accounts for 2% of overall sales.
