It can be scary out there on the road as you rely on other drivers around you to keep their eyes on what’s ahead of them instead of the latest incoming text on their smartphone’s screen.
About 67% of individuals responding to a poll from the National Safety Council consider themselves to be at risk of being injured or killed by a distracted driver. At the same time, just 25% of the respondents thought that their own distracted driving was putting anyone at risk. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and these iPhone apps work to keep your focus on the road and avoid distracted driving.
Best iPhone Apps to Help you Drive More Safely
Do Not Disturb: Apple began to include this feature in version 11 of the iOS operating system for iPhones. In Settings, tap “Turn on While Driving” to enable Do Not Disturb, and it will sense when you are in motion to suppress notifications while driving.
TrueMotion Family Safe Driving: This app is designed for the whole family, in that it shows where each member of the family is when behind the wheel, and it will show details on whether a driver tried to text or was driving aggressively.
AT&T DriveMode: The motto of this app from AT&T is “Don’t text and drive, it can wait.” Indeed, if you install this app on your iPhone, it will stop message alerts while you are driving (it automatically detects when you are moving faster than 15mph).
LifeSaver: This app will remain silent on your iPhone, working in the background until it notices when you have started driving in your vehicle. It will suppress alerts such as incoming text messages and emails. Once you pull over and park, you can return your calls without the danger of distraction.
Mojo: You can have some fun while staying free of distraction with the Mojo app on your iPhone. Compete with friends to see who wins the most points (by maintaining the safest, least distracted driving record in your group). You spend points to spin a wheel for a chance to win a gift card, which is designed to motivate users to drive without looking at their devices.
