The Most Popular Electric Vehicles in 2019

Electric cars are becoming more practical, and more popular as a result. There are still plenty of hybrids around, but the all-electric model has made great strides in recent years.  Hybrids allowed you to still use a gasoline engine when you needed to. Electric cars are able to go further now on a charge, so using them for everyday driving is now practical.

Recent developments in technology make these cars easier to charge, and you can go further between charges. It still takes longer to charge a battery than it does to fill up with gas, so they may not be as practical for long-range trips. Even so, for daily driving, electric cars, or EV’s. are easy to drive and much less expensive to maintain and run.

Leader of the Pack

Tesla Model 3 is the most popular EV worldwide, as well as in the United States. Teslas were very expensive until the Model 3 came along at about $36,000. This car has a standard range of 220 miles on a charge, and there is a higher level version that will go 325 miles. Model 3 will also get to 60 in 3.2 seconds. It is available in rear-wheel drive and other than the engine, is a standard luxury four-door sedan.

New Kid on the Block

The Hyundai Kona Electric is in its first year, but is expected to do very well in sales. A hybrid Kona performed well last year, so a fully electric model is expected to carry on that good vibe. The Kona has a sizable interior but is still a small car. It has nice acceleration and will go 258 miles on a charge. With tax credits and other incentives, this car is going for $28.000.

Going Mainstream

The Chevrolet Bolt is one of the few EV’s that can get into the 250-mile range on a single charge, which makes it popular.  The interior is not as roomy as the Kona, but it delivers on performance.

The Rest of the Popular Electric Vehicles

  • Nissan Leaf has a range of 226 miles.
  • Hyundai Ioniq has a range of 224 miles.
  • Kia Soul EV has a range of 200 miles.
