As spring moves into summer, the iPhone 12 rumors have been dropping like April showers. Previously unidentified Apple tipster @jon_prosser has been leaking details about most of the Apple 2020 hardware lineup, including the exact time of the iPhone SE launch. He is back at it again with juicier details including pricing, storage capacity, and screen details.
iPhone 12 Rumors
A completely overhauled design and form factor, the iPhone 12 is going to be a sought after device. But, with more details emerging, the new iPhone is confirming to draw a crowd. Most importantly, affordability can make or break a device, but Apple customers have never shied away from paying premium. This year, they may not need to.
After the iPhone SE launched at $399 with completely new upgraded internal, perhaps this is shaking through the lineup.
Prosser is predicting the following lineup:
- 5.4″ iPhone 12 at $649
- 6.1″ iPhone 12 at $749
- 6.1″ iPhone 12 Pro at $999
- 6.7″ iPhone 12 Pro Max at $1,099
Often reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed all four new models will feature an OLED display and 5G network connectivity. According to MacRumors, that prediction dates back to December 2019 and remains unchanged. This would be the first year Apple launches all new models with an OLED panel, which may be true, given their supply chain’s ability to offer cost at scale, given the iPhone X models began using them three years ago.
Additional panel upgrades may come in the way of a 120 Hz display. This refresh rate makes scrolling extra smooth and will bring the iPhone to speed with the iPad, starting in 2018. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, long time Apple pundit, has claimed only the higher end iPhone Pro devices would include the advanced technology.
Based on Prosser’s tweet, he expects the two entry level devices to have two cameras and the two flagship devices to have three cameras and adopt the 2020 iPad’s LiDAR sensor.
iPhone 12 Price Rumors
Continuing his string of leaks, May 11, Prosser offered details about iPhone pricing in a video.
From his video he claims the following details about storage:
- 5.4″ and 6.1″ iPhone 12 devices at 128GB and 256GB
- 6.1″ and 6.7″ iPhone 12 devices at 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB
This would be the first time Apple offered any devices with a starting storage option at 128GB. Apple has increasingly taken negative feedback about their devices coming in small storage capacity, despite the premium prices. Storage stingy devices have been a long running pricing game for the company, ensuring it takes in the most revenue per unit.
Certainly, the entry level storage increase will be another exciting upgrade in the compelling, long rumor list the iPhone 12 devices are generating.
Adding to the value, Max Wienbach via EverythingApplePro indicates iPhone 12 devices may also come with 3x optical zoom and improved Face ID.
The fall iPhone lineup is coming to light, but there is still at least one major event already scheduled in between. The Worldwide Developer Conference is slated for late June and generally focuses on operating system updates for all hardware platforms.
