For as much as we love smartphones, we like cars just as much. Which is why we’re lucky our booth is always in the same hall as the automotive section of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). In recent years, CES has become quite the high-tech auto show, and this year is no different. We took some time to sneak away from the booth to join the rest of the crowd in drooling over the cars and auto technology that goes with them. Below are our picks for the top car tech at CES 2017.
Faraday Future
Fast and sexy. That’s the best way we can describe Faraday Future’s big reveal – the FF91 Supercar. Now the world’s fastest electric car, the FF91 can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.39 seconds, which barely beats its biggest competitor, Tesla’s Model S P1OOD at 2.5 seconds. Not only is this car fast, it’s powerful. The FF91 has 1,050 horsepower and can travel up to 378 miles on a single charge.
But when can you get behind the wheel? We were thinking the same thing. Faraday Future’s new electric car will be available starting in 2018. Of course, only after you’ve reserved it for $5,000. As for the total cost? That’s to be determined. The company remained silent on the final retail price.
Chrysler Portal Concept
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is creating some buzz at CES 2017. This year they revealed their Chrysler Portal Concept car, which is more like a mini-van. The company announced that this car was designed “by Millennials, for Millennials.” The Chrysler Portal has a 1000kWh battery and a driving range of 250 miles. It has semi-autonomous driving technology as well as facial and voice recognition.
At this point, it is still only a concept. While it may not be as sexy and futuristic as the FF91, it’s definitely a more practical and realistic option for the everyday consumer.
Mercedes-Benz Concept EQ
In recent years at CES, Mercedes-Benz has never failed to draw a crowd – and they’ve done it again. This year at CES, Mercedes-Benz showcased the Concept EQ, a sporty SUV crossover they are labeling “the new brand for electric mobility.” The Concept EQ has two electric motors that allow the system output to increase to 300 kW and a range of up to 500 kilometers. But we won’t be driving this SUV anytime soon. The Mercedes-Benz EQ is expected to go on sale in 2020.
Nissan BladeGlider
Even though the Nissan BladeGlider wasn’t a secret to the attendees at CES 2017, it hasn’t stopped the crowds. Nissan has a working prototype of its latest electric vehicle on display. The BladeGlider has a sports car design and offers zero-emissions, not to mention the awesome reverse dihedral doors. It has a full-electric battery powertrain which results in a ride with high-performance and fantastic handling.
