A Closer Look at iPhone 5S
iPhone 5S will be hitting the shelves next week. Here is what we can expect.
- More Colors
As expected, iPhone 5S will be offered in new colors: gold, silver and “space gray”.
- Improved Camera
Although still 8MP, the new camera features a larger sensor, image stabilization, true tone flash to help colors come out accurately in low light, slow-motion video, built in photo filters and more. The burst mode allows you to take four quick photos and then merge them together to create a better final image.
- Fingerprint Sensor
Apple has added Touch ID, a fingerprint identity sensor which will not only unlock your iPhone but also be used to approve purchases from iTunes, the App Store and the iBooks Store. The sensor is built into the new home button design, which is now made of scratch-proof sapphire. More than one fingerprint can be programmed to the phone so you can allow more than one person access.
- Faster Processor
The A7 chip makes iPhone 5S the first 64-bit smartphone. Apple says it will be 2x faster than the A6 chip. The 5S will also house a M7 coprocessor built for measuring motion data with less battery power than the A7 chip.
- Better Battery
The new chips and use of a coprocessor mean sparing your battery from the heavy lifting to keep it working longer. It’s said to have 10 hours of talk, 10 hours of LTE browsing and 250 hours of standby mode.
- New Operating System
iOS7 is built for iPhone 5s. Besides supporting new iPhone features (like the fingerprint sensor and new chip) it also comes with better multitasking abilities and a new Command Center. iTunes Radio will be included as well.
- Leather Case
Apple is offering a leather case in a 6 different colors for $40.
When Is iPhone 5S Available to Purchase and How Much?
iPhone 5S is set to hit the shelf Friday, September 20. Somewhat surprisingly, Apple will not be offering pre-orders. With contract, the iPhone 5S will cost $199 for a 16GB version, $299 for 32GB and $399 for 64GB. Unlocked phones start at $650.
What About iPhone 5S Car Phone Mounts?
As of now, it is likely that our iPhone 5 holders will fit iPhone 5S as the dimensions appear to be the same. Once we receive the new iPhone, we will be able to test and confirm this.
