The 2018 Ford F-150 First Drive Reviews are In
The 2018 Ford F-150 is here, and it is getting stellar ratings. Between its 10-speed tranny, high-powered injection and persistence as one of America’s biggest muscle truck, the 2018 Ford F-150 is expected to smash its competition.
An Arsenal of Upgrades: 2018 Ford F-150
The 2018 Ford F-150 is jam-packed with upgrades. First, drivers can expect a new 3.3-liter base and a 2.7-liter, twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine as an economic alternative. The 2018 model has new cylinder heads, too, which accommodate for either direct fuel or port fuel injection. As a result, the truck’s bore and stroke are both reduced by approximately 2.0 and 1.0 millimeters, each.
A V-6 is also available, generating about 400 lb-ft of torque. While the version only reaches 325 horsepower, its massive torque capabilities get the truck moving quickly. Meanwhile, its 10-speed automatic option pairs incredibly well with the turbocharged mill—capable of conducting snappy shifts while skipping multiple gears when either upshifting or downshifting.
The Ride and Handling: 2018 Ford F-150
The 2018 Ford F-150 rides well, for a truck. Some test drivers were initially worried about its larger alloy wheels in the Lariat trim. Fortunately, its steering is reportedly precise, even providing the driver with feedback. The truck’s chassis, meanwhile, offers a good amount of balance—so comfort is not sacrificed for handling.
The base 2018 Ford F-150 XL model is smooth, but drivers might find it a little harsher than the Lariat when traversing rough pavement.
It’s All About the Interior: 2018 Ford F-150
The 2018 Ford F-150, reportedly, excels in everything interior-related. The F-150 can pass as a luxury vehicle, offering a slew of soft-touch plastics and interior padding—even on the dash. The truck’s front seats are fully adjustable, making comfort easy to achieve.
Plus, all 2018 models have wood trim on the dash and doors, giving the interior a slightly upscale ambiance. As for everything else, drivers can expect a healthy dosage of vinyl. The vinyl isn’t bad, though, because the F-150 is primarily a work truck.
This said, Ford seemingly gave its line a small entertainment boost. The 2018 F-150 features Ford’s Sync3 multimedia interface, complete with quick-responding touchscreen and the inclusion of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The 2018 Ford F-150 is a phenomenal ride, and its positive reviews have spiked its popularity considerably this year. As one of the better trucks available, it absolutely deserves a test drive—and even a purchase over leading competitors.
