Sony Xperia Z5 or Xperia Z5 Compact: What’s the Difference?

Sony Xperia Z5 or the Xperia Z5 Compact and Phone Holders

Sony recently released a new round of their flagship smartphones – the Xperia Z5 Premium, Z5 and the Z5 compact. This new release has presented consumers with what feels likes a three bears conundrum. After taking a look at all three models, the general consensus is that there’s not a whole lot of difference between the three, and when it comes down to it – it really is a matter of size preference. But Today, we’re going to take a deeper look at the Xperia Z5 and see how it compares to the Z5 Compact.

Although it’s an improvement over past models, the Sony Xperia Z5 does not give its competitors much to fear. Sony has been behind its competitors when it comes to overhauling its flagship smartphone. The display and design have basically remained the same, but with the high price tag it comes with, we’d expect it would have more to offer.

The Xperia Z5 does have a few new things worth mentioning. Sony has made some improvements to its design. While it keeps the glass front and back, the rear panel is frosted. This new design update has been well received. Along with the new frosted back, Sony has changed the size of the power button which also functions as a fingerprint reader. The Xperia Z5 does come with a powerful processor, a great camera and a stronger battery life.

Another noticeable difference is the lack of a waterproof promise that accompanied previous models. Previous models could be submerged under 1-meter of water for over 30 minutes. However, while advertised as waterproof, in the fine print, Sony advises that the new phone should not be submerged. You won’t be taking underwater photos with this camera, and you won’t be able to use wireless charging with it either.

Waterproofing aside, the Xperia Z5 is a solid phone. It offers a simplistic design and the majority of the features you’d expect to see in a high-end smartphone. So, what’s different about the Z5 compact, you ask? Good question. The answer? Not much. Besides the obvious size and display differences, the Z5 Compact offers basically the same features that the Z5 offers, just in a smaller size and for a cheaper price. Below is a side by side comparison of the specs.

After you’ve made your decision, the next step is finding a reliable phone holder and mount for your new phone. We currently have several options for the Xperia Z5 Compact, and we will be receiving holders for the Xperia Z5 in mid-December 2015. We offer a two-part custom mounting solution, which means you get a phone holder that was custom designed to fit your mobile device. After you pick the holder option that is best for you, you can then choose a vehicle-specific mount. Our dashboard mounts, just like our phone holders, are customized to each vehicle.
